What 3 things you can do to improve your health?
There’s something that I didn’t realize when I first started working one-on-one with people who want to make their health and wellness a priority and are not sure how to DO it or are not sure where to turn for help.
Here it is: Most of us already know what we need to be doing to improve our health!
There is a lot of information (and mis-information) when it comes to the foods we eat. Just look at the variety of books in the ‘diet’ or ‘health’ section of your local bookstore. But when it comes down to it, we still know the basic things we should be doing to improve our health.
In fact, when I ask my clients “What are three things you think you could be doing, to improve your health?” I get similar answers each time:
We intuitively know how to make ourselves well. But when it comes to following through? That’s where we tend to fall apart. I know!! I have done it, too. I still do it. I might be a health coach, but I’m still human! I sometimes eat too much chocolate, drink too much coffee, fall off the exercise wagon, skip meals, eat in a rush, make non-nourishing choices and don't take time to de-stress. Why ? The only way TRULY to figure that out, is to go inward and listen to your own voice.
For the next week, I’d like you to go inward and really think about the obstacles that are stopping you from living your healthiest life. Pause, breathe & ask yourself why you are not doing what you think you "should be" doing? Journal if it feels right for you. I know the answers will come.
What's getting in your way? Maybe you work long hours and cooking a healthy meal seems too time-consuming, or maybe you feel that the price of healthy food is too high. Maybe you think you just don't have time for anything relating to YOU and your health. Maybe you will discover that you aren’t sure if you really deserve to feel amazing. Whatever it is, it's inside you. Once you know, you can work to move PAST those obstacles.
So....your job for the next week is to simply go inward and pause for a bit. Think, reflect, and journal if that feels right. See what comes up for you. Once the awareness is there, you CAN set up a plan to overcome whatever is stopping you.
I would love to hear your comments below. Tell me what is stopping you!
If you put water into the gas tank of your car, will it run? If your forget to change the oil, will your car work properly? If you ride with low air pressure, will you get the best gas mileage? Detoxing your body is similar to tuning up your car and giving your car the fuel it needs! It allows your body to reboot its metabolism, boost its immunity, clears the cobwebs from your mind, gives your skin a chance to glow, and allows you to lose weight with more ease.
Are you afraid that it will be too hard or that maybe you aren’t worth it? You ARE worth it. You deserve to take time for you. You deserve to feel energetic and good about yourself. Do you remember what that feels like? You can be confident that you are worth it. You are enough and YOU CAN DO THIS! It takes intention and guidance. I will be with you every step of the way supporting you, answering your questions, and cheering you on, because I know you can do this.
Maybe a little fear comes up for you at the thought of not being able to eat your favorite foods.
Are you concerned about giving up your daily coffee, chocolate, or evening cocktails perhaps?
Are you afraid I’m going to make you drink juice and smoothies all day?
Maybe you think that you will feel hungry or deprived?
Having all these feelings are natural, but you know what is not natural? Feeling like we have to constantly count calories, not eat any fat, and go around in circles from one diet to the next. Doesn't the thought of that itself drain you of energy? I can teach you a different way!
There is no reason to be scared because you will NOT feel deprived. We are going to keep it simple and eat wholesome, REAL, nourishing foods. This is not a juice cleanse. This is not a starvation diet. This is a clean eating program that will teach you how to listen to your body and leave you feeling confident, refreshed & revitalized! The only thing you have to lose is some unwanted poundage, dark circles and puffiness under your eyes, and that feeling of lethargy that has been dragging you down. You will discover your blueprint for the foods that work for your unique body.
I have everything you will need: a step-by-step guide, the recipes, a shopping list and meal planner, as well as a transition recipe packet & food diary. I will be with you every step of the way with a private Facebook group, daily e-mail support and vested in your success. Don't trust me tooting my own horn.

Love your Liver this Spring by adding these foods into your diet :)
Artichoke: A wonderful choice for the liver and the gallbladder because it increases bile flow.
Asparagus: Helps cleanse the kidneys and reduces water retention. It is also a rich source of folate, important for healthy cells, and high in glutathione, a vital antioxidant for detox.
Dandelion: Stimulates the digestive juices. Helps to digest fats and supports the body’s natural detoxification processes. You can juice dandelion leaves, cook with them, or drink dandelion tea. Spring is the ideal time to reap the benefits of dandelion greens, as they become too bitter in the summer.
Garlic: Antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal, and anti-cancer. Garlic supports detoxification and is one of nature’s best antioxidants.
Nettle: Rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, including natural iron, nettle is fabulous for strengthening the liver, adrenals, and kidneys. Wonderful in tea form, it can be taken up to 3 times a day for extra nourishment during detox.
Peas: Rich in vegan protein and packed with essential nutrients. An ideal food to substitute for heavier protein sources during a detox.
Sea Vegetables: Dulse, nori, kelp, and kombu. Alkalizing and Detoxifying. Full of antioxidant and antiinflammatory properties. Strengthen the immune system.
Leafy Greens: Kale, Swiss chard, spinach, bok choy, mustard greens, and watercress. Full of vitamins, minerals, and disease-fighting phytochemicals. Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory.
Fresh Herbs: Parsley, cilantro, and basil. Full of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory. Detoxifying and immune boosting.
In Chinese medicine the Spring is connected to the liver and the gallbladder. These two organs are blood cleansers and they both work hard to keep your body free of toxins. In Western medicine the liver is also associated with detoxification and blood filtration. Its job is to filter and neutralize the harmful substances in your body so that they do not do any damage.
When there is a toxic buildup in the liver and gallbladder the body can start to experience physical reactions such as exhaustion, colds, weight gain and depression, to name a few. The liver wakes up in the Spring and when imbalances exist in the body, it is not uncommon to experience feelings of anger, headaches, rashes and/or sleepless nights during this season.
With over 500 metabolic processes, the liver is the ‘Master Detoxer’ of the body. When the liver is congested, your digestion is impaired which results in a toxic overload. In honoring the Spring season, the goal is to cleanse the liver and improve its functioning.
The other organ of focus in Spring is the gallbladder. Bile is produced in the liver and stored in the gallbladder. A toxic and overburdened liver leads to impaired release of bile from the gallbladder, which affects the breakdown of fats and overall digestion.
The liver and gallbladder work in harmony to support a strong immune system, balanced moods, and healthy digestion.
Eating with the seasons supports detoxification. Spring brings with it wonderful dark leafy greens like kale, swiss chard and spinach. Peas, artichokes, asparagus, garlic, nettle and dandelion are also wonderful cleansing foods for Spring. Choosing the right foods to heal the body and support proper detoxification by the liver, helps with cleansing the liver bringing you more vitality.

I just completed a 3-day juice cleanse and I am feeling refreshed. I needed to get caffeine and sugar out of my diet for a few days and while the first day was tough, I am feeling so much better! I want to offer you my guide for a 3-day Juice Cleanse.
Below is just the beginning of what you will find in my 3-Day Juice Cleanse. Juicing is great in Spring when the weather starts warming up and we feel like having cool drinks. Juicing is a great for jumpstarting weight loss, cleansing the body of toxins, enhancing digestion and boosting your immune system for the Spring Season. Juicing nourishes your body with nutrients, vitamins, and raw enzymes that are easy to digest and that enter the blood stream immediately. How amazing to be able to give your body this gift!
There are myriad benefits of juicing:
While many people can do a juice cleanse for 5 - 10 days, I recommend starting with 1 to 3 days and adding in clean meals as needed. You need to ensure you are getting adequate nutrients to support the regeneration of cells and organs while purging your body of toxic waste that can lead to health issues or a lack of vitality.
A juice detox gives your digestion a break and a chance to completely rest. Juicing is different from drinking smoothies because you are having just the juice without any pulp. The body can easily consume up to ten pounds of vegetables in juices, which would be very difficult to accomplish while eating vegetables with the fiber. This is ideal for people with IBS, leaky gut & candida. For those without hampered digestion, the combination of both methods – juicing and smoothies – can be very effective. Juicing is also a powerful way to replenish and hydrate the body.
Depending on where you live, buying freshly squeezed juices can run up to $12 per juice.
So, if you are going to make the life-changing commitment to juicing regularly, I would recommend empowering yourself by saving up to invest in a juicer. For a comparison of the various models available, refer to http://www.top10juicers.net.
After much investigation and even trying one juicer and returning it, I settled on the Omega NC800 HDS 5th Generation Nutrition Center Juicer and I LOVE IT! It’s easy to set up, easy to clean, and NEVER jams on me.
So if you want to take a chance with juicing, sign up for my free guide - The 3-Day Juice Cleanse. Even if you just want to try some recipes, grab the guide. I hope you enjoy it! Please share how you feel after the cleanse below :)
I am always learning something new and I learned about Great Lakes Gelatin a few months back and have been adding into my daily routine. Collagen is the most abundant fibrous protein in the human body. Collagen offers many health benefits including:
You can read much more on gelatin at the Weston Price A. Price Foundation website.
The evidence supports the addition on bone broth into your daily routine. I don't have the time or inclination to make bone broth on a regular basis, so I looked for other options and was pleasantly surprised when I learned about the powdered versions! I am still early in my experimenting and will update you on benefits I have seen for myself and my family.
Here are is what I buy:
Great Lakes Gelatin
It comes in two varieties and it’s good to have both in your pantry as you use them in different ways. I have only been able to find this online. I have never seen it in a local store.
Great Lakes Gelatin is the RED can. When mixed with hot or warm liquid it gels up allowing you to make healthy jello and other desserts. The gelling action is not so great in smoothies or cold drinks - I made that mistake when I first started experimenting! - only use RED for a "gummy" or "gelling" recipe.
Great Lakes Collagen Hydrolysate is the GREEN can. This one dissolves in cold or hot liquids. I always dissolve mine in room temperarture liquid first as to be sure it won't gel up.
Try adding it to smoothies, teas, coffee, or fresh made juices for an easy and super beneficial addition to your daily routine.
I have yet to try any recipes for jellos or gummies, but there are many out there! If you have one, please share.
Hippocrates, in teaching the doctors of his day, said, “Consider the seasons of the year and what each of them produces.”
In the winter, we detox differently than at other times of the year, aiming to nourish and strengthen the body. Some animals hibernate, and we humans have a similar instinct to slow down. No matter where you live and what the climate is like in the winter, our bodies and minds naturally go inward this season. It is a time to allow for stillness and just be.
Each season’s detox supports a different organ, emotion, and a different way to cleanse the body. For the winter season, in Chinese medicine we honor the organs within our bodies that give us energy, life, and vitality, which are the kidneys and adrenal glands. The element associated with these organs is water. By eating seasonally and honoring the seasonal elements, we intuitively bring our bodies back into balance.
According to Chinese medicine, the kidneys are your energy source, also known as your vital Qi (pronounced “chee”). The following symptoms are associated with weak kidney function:
If you suffer from any of these symptoms, my Winter Reboot is a great place to start. By eating the foods in this winter program, you will begin to strengthen and support your vital energy force. Also, the exercises included in your Winter Detox Tool Kit will nourish your mind and spirit by releasing the emotions that are related to the kidneys: fear and anxiety. When we release fear, we step into power, strengthening our vital Qi, or life force. You can think of your kidneys as your engine tank. Every car needs a well-functioning engine to run efficiently.
As you nourish your kidneys, you will start to see changes such as:
During my winter reboot you will also be removing the foods you may be eating that are weakening your adrenal glands, such as excessive amounts of coffee, processed foods, sugar, white flour, dairy, and gluten.
Stress also negatively affects the adrenals, so think about other areas of your life that might be causing stress or disharmony. Again, the exercises in the Winter Detox Tool Kit will help you discover and address these areas of tension, preparing you for a winter season of health and happiness.
I offer seasonal detoxes. For my current offering, please visit www.simplyinspiredwellnessdetox.com.
Whatever symptoms you might be experiencing, whether it be gas, bloating, anxiety, depression, brain fog, eczema, rashes, or even an autoimmune condition - it all starts in the gut. Healing the gut is the first step toward healing your body. Our gut consists of bacteria and we need that bacteria to have a healthy balance or the rest of us will not be balanced.
What causes our guts to be off balance, having more of the bad guys than the good guys?
• birth control pills
• environmental toxins
• consumption of animals and dairy exposed to antibiotics
• genetically modified foods
What's my first line of defense for populating that good bacteria, creating balance and healing the gut? Probiotics!
The term “probiotic” is derived from the Greek, meaning “for life”. Probiotics are currently defined as “live microorganisms which, when consumed in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit to the host”.
Not only do these healthy, good organisms protect you from the common cold, boost your immune system, and improve your digestion, they are also ideal for anyone who has tried to lose weight but just can’t seem to make that happen.
Probiotics can be in pill form, powder form or you can get them from the foods you eat. Probiotic foods are a simple place to start. Excellent sources of probiotics include kefir and fermented or cultured foods and beverages. One of my favorite things to drink is Kevita Probiotic Sparkling Beverage. I love the Lemon Cayenne Cleanse, but there are MANY varieties. Be sure to stay away from the ones with sugar.
Check it out: www.kevita.com
Healthier Gut = Healthier You.
So...give some probiotic foods a try. Share your thoughts and favorites with me :)
Feeling a bit stressed? Who isn't?
Whether it's the snow in the Northeast, or waiting in line at the grocery store, in this day and age, we are surrounded by the hustle and bustle of a fast-paced life. No matter how hard we try, the stress just keeps coming. If we perceive something as stressful, it is creating stress on our bodies. It's creating inflammation. Our perception is our reality. It doesn't matter how your neighbor or friend might deal with the same situation; it only matters how you deal with whatever you find to be stressful.
I was in the airport today trying to get my daughter (who was traveling alone for the first time) off to see her grandparents. The whole day was a stressful for me...getting to airport, waiting for flight to arrive, getting them on the plane, waiting to see if it got off on time so they could make tight connection, driving home, wondering if they made it to connection.... you get the idea. For me, that was stressful. For you, maybe not. But what did I do today? I took a moment to pause and breathe. I did this several times. It helped.. A LOT.
So simple, yet most of us, including me, often forget to do it.
Taking a moment to pause and breathe will help you to center yourself and find some inner peace amidst the chaos of everyday life. Not only that, but it will help you to reduce inflammation in the body and decrease the toxic load on your organs.
Breathe in through your nose slowly for a count of 8, then exhale slowly through your nose for a count of 8. Then repeat.
That’s it. It’s really that simple.
You can play around with how long you breathe in for and how long you breathe out for. The longer the inhalation, the more energy you will have. The longer the exhalation, the more relaxed you will feel.
Experiment, and see what works for you but most importantly, consciously pause and breathe. Notice how you feel. It really works.
